PGA of Canada Head Golf Professional
PGA of Canada Head Golf Professional
Steve grew in up Gibsons, BC on the beautiful Sunshine Coast and much like Happy Gilmour he was first and foremost a hockey player and had his heart set on a career in pro hockey, he knew little to nothing about golf until the age of 14 when friends encouraged him to give golf a try. Instantly he was hooked spending any available daylight hour at the Sunshine Coast Golf & CC. As time went on his allegiances to hockey slowly faded and a career as a Golf Professional became more achievable than his dream to play in the NHL. He promptly enrolled at Camosun College in Victoria, BC and graduated from their Professional Golf Management Program in 2005. In 2006, Steve became a member of the PGA of Canada and soon after was offered a job at the Capilano Golf & CC. Over his professional career, Steve has been fortunate to work at some of the best facilities in the Lower Mainland including Richmond Country Club, Northview Golf Academy, and most recently he served as the Head Professional of the Bowen Island Golf Club for three years prior to joining the team at UGC before the 2015 season.
Much like when Steve was younger, many of the daylight hours are still spent at the golf course, but he will be the first to tell you that well he still loves golf, most of his time at the Golf Course is spent working and he doesn’t play nearly as much golf as he would like to. His hockey gear has also been all but retired in recent years as he is not nearly as nimble as he once was. When not at the course, he relishes spending time with his wife while they enjoy hiking, cooking, travelling, or enjoying a craft beer, a nice glass of wine, or a good scotch.
Golf Course Superintendent
Phil Bunting comes from a family that has a rich history in golf. Born in Derby England, Phil was destined to have a career in the golf course business; it was in his blood. His own Father, Uncle and Grandfather were golf Course Superintendents. Phil learned at an early age, the importance of his grandfather’s legacy, which ultimately instilled in Phil a love of the golf industry. Phil’s family immigrated to Canada for his father to assume a role as Superintendent at the highly acclaimed Royal Colwood in Victoria, BC. The seed of a career in the golf course management had been planted in Phil’s mind while he worked summers on this course along side his Father.

Thank you for being so patient throughout our last minute planning and for supporting us every step of the way. It was truly a pleasure working and communicating with you. It was a dream wedding and we will cherish the memories we made at the University Golf Course for the rest of our lives. Sincerely, Lan & Edmundo

Hi Joni, Thanks so much we were very happy with everything
Thank you Joni. It was perfect. Thank you for everything.
Hello Joni, Thank you for the warm wishes! We would like to express on our deepest appreciation for all the hard work you put in getting our special day organized. Everyone agreed it was great. Please also pass on our thanks to Maria and her crew. The event went without even the slightest problem and made the right decision early on to move the ceremony inside. We would not hesitate to come back to UGC to hold an event and will gladly recommend it to others. Thank you again!
Hi Joni, Thanks again for everything. We’re so glad we were lucky enough to have our wedding at UGC. You were wonderful. Wouldn’t change a thing and glad I chose UGC over the other 2 venues. It had the perfect indoor and outdoor wedding space, plus everyone I dealt with at the venue was very friendly. Special thanks to Joni! She was the main reason I booked UGC as I felt very comfortable with her and she was good with details. The contacts at the other venue I’ve been to were not quite at par with Joni.
The food was absolutely outstanding, and far exceeded our expectations. All of our guests complimented on the excellent quality and presentation of the food (most notably the perfectly cooked steak). Joni was efficient and professional in guiding us through the complicated event-planning process and made us feel special. We particularly appreciated the UGC’s tremendous flexibility in accommodating our (many of which last-minute) requests and immaculate attention to detail that were instrumental in making our wedding a success. The UGC’s professionalism and experience helped smooth out any of our snags significantly.
