Key Personnel

Steve Liddicoat

PGA of Canada Head Golf Professional

Steve grew in up Gibsons, BC on the beautiful Sunshine Coast and much like Happy Gilmour he was first and foremost a hockey player and had his heart set on a career in pro hockey, he knew little to nothing about golf until the age of 14 when friends encouraged him to give golf a try. Instantly he was hooked spending any available daylight hour at the Sunshine Coast Golf & CC. As time went on his allegiances to hockey slowly faded and a career as a Golf Professional became more achievable than his dream to play in the NHL. He promptly enrolled at Camosun College in Victoria, BC and graduated from their Professional Golf Management Program in 2005. In 2006, Steve became a member of the PGA of Canada and soon after was offered a job at the Capilano Golf & CC. Over his professional career, Steve has been fortunate to work at some of the best facilities in the Lower Mainland including Richmond Country Club, Northview Golf Academy, and most recently he served as the Head Professional of the Bowen Island Golf Club for three years prior to joining the team at UGC before the 2015 season.

Much like when Steve was younger, many of the daylight hours are still spent at the golf course, but he will be the first to tell you that well he still loves golf, most of his time at the Golf Course is spent working and he doesn’t play nearly as much golf as he would like to. His hockey gear has also been all but retired in recent years as he is not nearly as nimble as he once was. When not at the course, he relishes spending time with his wife while they enjoy hiking, cooking, travelling, or enjoying a craft beer, a nice glass of wine, or a good scotch.

Phil Bunting

Golf Course Superintendent

Phil Bunting comes from a family that has a rich history in golf. Born in Derby England, Phil was destined to have a career in the golf course business; it was in his blood. His own Father, Uncle and Grandfather were golf Course Superintendents.  Phil learned at an early age, the importance of his grandfather’s legacy, which ultimately instilled in Phil a love of the golf industry.  Phil’s family immigrated to Canada for his father to assume a role as Superintendent at the highly acclaimed Royal Colwood in Victoria, BC.  The seed of a career in the golf course management had been planted in Phil’s mind while he worked summers on this course along side his Father.

Phil’s experience spans over 37 seasons, serving for the past six years as the Golf Course Superintendent at University Golf Club.  During Phil’s tenure at UGC, he has implemented an “Attention to Detail” maintenance program that has enhanced both the quality and playability of the course.  Committed to supporting the profession, he has been an active member of the CGSA, GCSAA, BCGSA and the Western Canada Turfgrass Association. Phil, his wife and their two sons live in the quaint fishing community of Steveston, BC.  Phil is an avid soccer fan and spends much of his free time coaching his two son’s in soccer.

Nathan Fairhall

PGA of Canada Associate Professional and PGA Australia Member

Nathan was born and raised in Melbourne, Australia. He has been a member of the PGA of Australia since 2009, and received national recognition for his combined academic and playing achievements. Nathan competed at the professional level before turning his attention to the business and coaching aspects of the game.

Seeking a change in scenery, Nathan packed up and moved to Vancouver in 2014. Not long after touching down at YVR, he accepted an Assistant Professional position at UGC. Unlike many Australians, he enjoys the cold weather and loves the snow!
